Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz unveiled plans to integrate Apple’s Siri into its A-Class electronics system that would allow drivers access to their iPhone apps using voice commands. The program, called the Drive Kit Plus will work in conjunction with Mercedes-Benz’ Digital DriveStyle App to translate the iPhone’s screen onto the in-car system screen. Drivers will be able to listen to music, change radio channels, update status on social networks, and send text messages. The Drive Kit Plus will come preinstalled with popular apps such as Twitter, Facebook, and Aupeo Personal Radio. Users can then add and control other apps via their iPhones. "시리, 새로 온 메일 제목을 불러봐. 음, 회사에서 온 메일들만 골라서 읽어줘. 참 아내한테 온 메일 있었지, 그것도 읽어봐. 답장은 이렇게 해. 오늘 저녁에 늦게 들어가. 미안. 페이스북에 메시지가 왔다고? 읽어봐. 잠깐, 길이 막히는 것 같은데? 우회로를 검색해 봐. 아, 이 노래 너무 늘어지잖아. 최근에 추가한 빅뱅 신곡들 틀어봐. 음, 좀 졸린 걸. 재미있는 얘기 좀 해볼래?"

뭐 이런 게 다 된다는(그것도 올해 안으로) 얘기일테니, 생각만 해도 두근두근. 처음 시리가 나왔을 때에는 이 기능이 나와 스마트폰 사이의 정서적 유대감(기계-사람 사이의!)을 키워주는 장치라고만 생각했는데, 이렇게 다른 기계와 연결되는 것을 보니 내 주위 모든 사물과의 유대감을 키워주는 장치일 수도 있겠다는 생각이 든다. 정말로 HAL이 생각나기도.

세상은 이렇게 변해가는데 내 차의 음성인식 시스템은 뉘앙스의 차량용. 서버 연결형이 아니라 독립 설치형이라서 전화번호 불러줘도 인식률이 엉망. 도저히 못 써먹겠다. 네트워크 없는 기계가 얼마나 멍청한지 깨닫는 용도로만 사용.
